Ancient Greek Day Video

Ancient Greek Day!

Our students recently stepped back in time to experience life in Ancient Greece! The day was filled with hands-on activities that brought history o life and sparked creativity. Children explored traditional crafts and practices, including:

  • Soap Carving-Inspired by ancient artistry, students carved intricate designs into soap.
  • Potion Making-Recreating herbal mixtures and learning about remedies used in ancient times.
  • Crown of Leaves- Each child crafted a beautiful wreath crown, just like those worn by Olympic champions.
  • Designing Ancient Greek Coins- Students imagined themselves as rulers and created their own coin designs.

It was a wonderful opportunity for our learners to connec with history in a fun and interactive way. A big thank you to everyone who helped make this day memorable!

                                                                                      Anglian Water Visit

A Big Thank you to Richard from Anglian water!

Today, our Year 5 children had a fantastic visit from Richard at Anglian Water. He taught us so much about water cycle, what happens to the things we flush down the toilet, and how water is cleaned and recycled before it comes back to our homes. The children were amazed to learn where the water in our taps actually comes from and discovered lots of clever ways we can all save water every day. From turning off the tap while brushing our teeth to fixing drippy taps, every little action makes a big difference!

Thank you Richard, for making learning about water fun and easy to understand. Our pupils left feeling inspired to take care of this precious resources.

                                                 Spanish Day 30th January 2026

                                          Greenstead library visit

Today , to celebrate World Book Day, our students had a great time exploring different educational resources at Greenstead Library. The library visits are designed to enhance their learning experience, enrich their reading skills, and broaden their understanding of diverse subjects. We believe these experiences are vital in fostering a lifelong love for reading and learning among our pupils.

                       Science experiment

This year, our curriculum is packed with engaging and educational activities designed to spark curiosity and foster a love for learning. A highlight from our science curriculum includes the much-anticipated science experiment involving Coca Cola and Mentos. This exciting activity not only captivates the students' attention but also provides a fantastic opportunity to explore scientific concepts such as chemical reactions and gas expansion in a fun, practical way.

                                  World Book Day

To continue our World Book Day celebrations, Year 5 set up their very own ''Book Cafe'' today. The children sampled a variety of genres, discussed the books they had been reading and shared what they enjoyed about them. Thery also explored unfamiliar vocabulary and consider whether or not they would recommend each book. Everyone had fantastic time immersing themselves in the world of reading!

To make the day even more fun, we designed our own Mr Men -inspired characters on flat stones. It was a challenging task, but the children's dedication and creativity were truly inspiring.

                             Celebrations  !!!!

Art competition! We are incredible proud of our Year 5 pupils at Hazelmere Junior. They continue to grow in confidence, skills and independence and we truly value the support of our families in their learning journey. Today we are especially delighted to celebrate Katherine from 5M  who has won one of the top three prizes in the 'Are You The Next Banksy?' competition for her beautiful bear painting-chosen from hundreds of outstanding entries. This is a fantastic achievement and we are thrilled to share it with our whole school community. Fantastic work Katherine!

Year 5M and 5R -Published Young Writers!

We are extremely proud to announce that our wonderful children in Year 5M and 5R have achieved something truly special- they have been published in a real book!

Earlier this term, the children took part in a national writing competition run by Young Writers, an organisation that inspires and celebrates creative writing in schools across the UK. Young Writers give pupils the chance to showcase their imagination, develop their literacy skills and experience the excitment of seeing their work in print. The competition invited children to craft their own short piece of creative writing and we are delighted to see so many of our pupils' entries  selected for publication. Being chosen is a significant achievement and reflects the children's hard work, creativity and enthusiasm for writing.

We are incredibly proud of every child who took part. Their dedication and imagination shine through in every piece and it is wonderful to see their efforts recognised on a national platform.

A huge well done to Year 5M and 5R -you are officially published authors!
